Academic Advising
OPT: International Students Graduating in May or August
For international students planning to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT), please review the Office of Global Services tutorial on the application process and necessary materials. Since it can take about 120 days for a student's work authorization to be issued, it is important to review the tutorial as soon as possible and to contact Global Service Advisors with any questions.

Registration PIN
Undergraduate and New or Reinstated Graduate Students: Contact your academic advisor for an appointment to discuss courses for next term and to receive your registration PIN (also referred to as an alternate PIN) as soon as possible.
Continuing Graduate Students and Stuart School of Business Graduate Students: See the "Register & Pay" quick-links capsule of the Illinois Tech Portal for your registration PIN.
Registration Holds
Please check to see if you have any holds that will prevent your registration for Fall 2026. You can check if you have a hold(s) in your Student Profile.
If you have a hold, please reach out to the appropriate office as soon as possible. Illinois Tech staff are available to answer any questions you may have about your hold and how to resolve it.
Course Prerequisites, Restrictions, and Permits
There are a number of registration errors you can encounter when building your schedule. Some of the most common are: prerequisite, level restriction, time conflict, and linked course required.
On-ground students are ineligible to register for course sections –05, -A44, -B88
In order to request a registration permit, you would need to contact either the course instructor or the academic department. You will need to meet any course restrictions or be approved for a permit to register. A list of all departmental permit approvers can be found here. Be sure to include your CWID in your request.
Walk-in Advising Hours: At the downtown campus, students can meet with an Academic Advisor during the times listed below. When you arrive, please "check in" at the reception desk by Room 401C. Students will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis, and no appointments are taken or required.
