Mission Student Chapter for the National Association of Minority Landscape Architects. Founded in Los Angeles, California, in 2020, The National Association of Minority Landscape Architects (NAMLA) is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to increasing minority representation within landscape architecture, both in practice and academia. NAMLA seeks to achieve this by providing educational and career development support to minorities and addressing the structural racism that has historically limited the involvement of people of color in influential roles within the field. Our overarching aim is to enhance diversity at all levels through education, career development, and leadership initiatives.
Membership BenefitsNAMLA is dedicated to inspiring people of color to pursue careers in landscape architecture by:● Introducing the field of landscape architecture and providing support through the application process for relevant educational programs.● Facilitating access to apprenticeships, and offering mentorship, alongside grants and scholarships for students at all levels of study—from apprenticeship through to doctoral degrees.● Listing job, internship, and apprenticeship opportunities on our website and social media platforms to connect minority students with professional openings.● Collaborating with organizations to offer micro-grants for projects addressing racial and class inequalities in landscape architecture academia.● Partnering with allied organizations, institutions, and businesses to bolster minority representation across the profession.● Showcasing and rewarding the academic contributions of minority educators and graduate students in landscape architecture.● Offering portfolio competition awards to spotlight the talents of emerging minority students in the field.● Assisting minority students in becoming licensed landscape architects through preparation and reimbursement grants for the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.).● Organizing events for students to advocate for diversity and equity in landscape architecture.● Participating in events and programs that advocate for diversity and equity in landscape architecture.● Organizing student-focused events, lectures, and workshops.
