Field Trip - Farnsworth House

Join us for a special Farnsworth House Tour & Picnic at Loon Lake. This event offers a unique opportunity to experience one of the most iconic works of modern architecture while spending time together in a relaxed outdoor setting.
Designed by Mies van der Rohe, the Farnsworth House is a landmark of modern architecture, known for its minimalist structure, transparent glass enclosure, and close relationship with the surrounding landscape. This visit will give students the chance to experience the house in person and reflect on the relationship between architecture, nature, and space beyond the classroom.
After the tour, participants will gather for a picnic at nearby Loon Lake, where we will enjoy food, conversation, and time together in nature.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
-Experience the Farnsworth House in person, one of the most important examples of modern architecture.
-Connect with students from various majors in a relaxed and informal setting.
-Enjoy a picnic at Loon Lake after the tour.
This event is open not only to architecture students, but also to all students who are interested in architecture, design, nature, or simply spending time together outside campus. For architecture students, the Farnsworth House tour will be a meaningful opportunity to connect academic learning with a real architectural landmark. For non-architecture students, it will be a great chance to experience one of the most well-known architectural sites near Chicago and enjoy a community gathering in nature.
